PAWS for SJACS

One of the ways STAR is able to provide treatment for shelter animals with costly medical issues is through partnership with PAWS for SJACS, the Pet Awareness & Welfare Society for San Jose Animal Care and Services. This organization offers rescues such as ours financial assistance with specific cases of animals in need who are at the San Jose shelter. STAR takes the pet into our foster care and combines funding from PAWS with our own financial assistance to provide medical treatment. Once they are ready for adoption STAR finds these needy animals a permanent, loving home.

We are thankful to have the opportunity to work with PAWS to save those animals who might not otherwise have a chance to be rescued. We've posted two success stories from PAWS below. Please check out their website http://www.paws4sjacs.org to learn more.

Pepper Jack with tumorPepper Jack Pepper Jack is a 10 year old Chihuahua who was abandoned at the San Jose shelter. This tiny 4 lb. dog had a 10 oz. mass on his chest that required surgery.
STAR took Pepper Jack into foster care and, with the help of PAWS, was able to get him the treatment he needed. It was a difficult surgery but he made it through, earning the nickname “Miracle Boy.” Last month Pepper Jack found his happy ending- a forever home with a wonderful family.

Mickey Mickey Mantle was rescued from SJACS in Sept of 2008 by the Bay Area Siberian Husky Club. He was said to be 14 and blind. PAWS assisted with the bills to evaluate his vision, and veternarians determined that the blindness was from an injury and not genetic, and that he was only 2-3 years old! Mickey had a great personality and after 5 months he found a forever home in Livermore. Here is a picture of him and his new “girlfriend” Tasha who is also a rescue.
